DDCHARLOTTETOWN - Two youths in Prince Edward Island were charged Wednesday with first-degree murder following the recent discovery of human remains on the eastern side of the province.
The RCMP confirmed the pair, whose identities are protected by a publication ban, were arrested Tuesday in connection with a missing persons case this month.
Unidentified remains were found Wednesday near Milltown Cross, P.E.I.
RCMP Cpl. Gavin Moore said the two accused, whose ages were not released, have also been charged with interfering with human remains.
As well, the officer said one of the youths has been charged with three other criminal offences: being an accessory after the fact to an offence, obstructing a police officer and committing public mischief by falsely accusing someone of committing an offence.
The provincial coroner's office has been called in to identify the remains.
The publication ban applies to the release of any information that could identify the victim, as well as the two accused who were taken into custody.
One of the youths is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Dec. 27, and the other is to appear Jan. 18.
